A great big thank you to Gareth and Jo Morgan for their matching funding announced today of up to $500,000 to improve education in the Solomon Islands. New Zealand, what an opportunity to really make your charity donation do so much more!
The $1m will be used to build and renovate schools, provide them with solar power, add latrines for girls and boys, water to wash their hands and reduce infections, teachers accommodation to attract good teachers and dormitories for those pupils who have to canoe from another Island to school.
View Gareth and Jo Morgan on TV3 Sunrise.
This construction is of itself a really needed project. But what really adds tremendous value is that NZAID – NZ Governments overseas aid agency – is paying a per pupil fee to all children to enable them to attend school free of charge. UNICEF NZ is paying for teacher training, community responsibility for their schools which greatly increases attendance and academic performance.
So we have an integrated package of: free primary education, the hardware with schools, latrines, toilets, etc and the software of Child Friendly Schools. This package will really advance education and therefore reduce child mortality, improve health, improve employment prospects and future governance.
This partnership model is the way to make a difference – join us now.
Many thanks,
Dennis
