Braving the elements for a good cause
Well, we got about the worst Spring day possible for our street appeal – cold Southeasterlies, a 5-degree day which feels like 1 degree, and rain to top it all off!
But we’re passionate about this cause and the contribution we want to make towards it, so we woke up nice and early and came into Wellington to be greeted by gusts just outside the Railway Station around 6.45 a.m. From there, the main coordinators got to their respective locations, and we kicked things into gear.
We were really impressed by most of our friends, who have rallied around us and supported the appeal by collecting and/or donating money to help those children in need. They have given up their early morning lie-ins, their lunchtime breaks, and have even delayed going home later tonight to stick around and keep collecting! We had just over 60 collectors lined up to help us out – while a few of them couldn’t make it for various reasons, the great thing is that several more people volunteered to help us collect on the day, which meant that the number of total collectors was probably around 70.
We’re glad to be able to help raise funds to provide much-needed supplies to children and their families who have been most-affected by the conflict in Sri Lanka. UNICEF has been doing a great job to provide various forms of humanitarian assistance: water, nutrition, hygiene, health and several others.
A big THANK YOU goes out to all those who supported us in this appeal – donators, collectors, organisers and anyone who spared a thought for this worthy cause. We couldn’t have done this without you!
It’s not over yet – collectors will be braving the elements to help children right until later on this evening! Hopefully the people of Wellington will have a bit more change to spare!
