Thanks and Cake for Volunteer Awareness Week

Share

Next week is Volunteer Awareness Week, and while we are always grateful for our fantastic volunteers, this week we are hosting a morning tea, with lots of coffee and yummy cake, to thank the great Kiwis who help us out.

Our volunteers and interns help with everything from research, to organising events, to office admin, and make valuable contributions to UNICEF’s work.

Want to volunteer or intern for UNICEF NZ? Fill in this form and email it to 2helpkids@unicef.org.nz to register your interest, or check here for our regularly updated volunteer opportunities.

Pip, a current intern at UNICEF NZ, reviews her volunteering experince:

For the past five months I have been interning in the UNICEF Wellington office. Coming in one or two days a week has been a great way to balance work and study, while getting some practical work experience. So far I have organised a concert, written articles, attended training workshops, as well as the typical intern jobs of the copy running and boxing up materials.

While some people believe that such small visits to the office can make the work environment unwelcoming and daunting, I have found the other staff to be the opposite, gaining friends, not just workmates.

In a positive environment, volunteering helps the organisation as well as the volunteer. Although my background is in international development, I have learnt much more about specific issues, such as child labour and the global economic crisis, as well as about the ways in which UNICEF works.

I enjoy volunteering as I think it is important to give back to the community. I would recommend it to anyone.
